Royal Victoria Hospital Hydrotherapy Pool
60 square metres
BACKGROUND
The Hydrotherapy pool is an excellent addition to the palatial care provided by the professionals at the Royal Victoria Hospital. The pool is used to rehabilitate patients in an aquatic environment, ideally those who are unable to exercise on dry land for various reasons. Rehabilitation in the pool has many advantages. It helps to lessen the load on your joints and can be used to improve joint range of movement, joint stability and muscle strength in a warm environment. Aquatic therapy can also be effective in improving general mobility, balance and core stability.
THE PROBLEM
The previous construction of the Hydrotherapy pool was constructed using a waterproof sheet membrane. Through time water from the pool had penetrated through the sheet causing large blisters which was less than ideal for the patients using the facility for physiotherapy and pain relief etc.
THE SOLUTION & BENEFITS
We worked closely with the client and manufacturer to provide an effective speedy solution keeping the therapy downtime to a minimum. We decided the best solution was to remove the existing “single ply” membrane then apply the Remmers Kiesol and Elastogrout Waterproofing System, before adding anti slip tiles to complete the project.
