The dangers associated with HOT WORKS

The dangers associated with HOT WORKS

Sep 29, 2016 | NEWS | 0 comments |

Why should you choose Liquid Roofing over traditional bituminous materails applied by gas burning torches?

There is yet another story circulating through the industry regarding the two school buildings damaged by fire within three days of each other, almost definitely the blame of a roofing specialist using naked flame gas torches.

flat_roof_on_fire_gas_torchWhy must we, as an industry, continue to place our staff, clients and buildings at risk?

We are aware that to create a fire three elements are needed, oxygen, combustible material and flame, any two are reasonably safe but add the third and the mix is set for disaster.

We the system providers and architectural specifiers are at fault and we must accept the responsibility and rethink the alternatives.

It is our responsibility to rethink and take away the danger with alternative method and systems. There is no point of offering the many benefits of a flat roof if we risk destroying clients’ property or risk lives.

Just because an incident has not directly been within a contractors responsibility, we cannot disregard the blame, ‘it did not happen on my watch’ does not wash. It soon will; and the cost of insurance protection is spread across the industry adding unnecessary costs to the final product.

The attitude of these guardians of risk is to charge more and add the grey print of get out clauses, something all contractors would be guilty of not reading.

It is certainly scrutinized after the event to find fault and escape blame and only on this inspection it may be found that the practice used by both large and small contractors could result in no insurance cover.

This leads to dissolvement of companies, bankruptcy, and skills lost.

It is our industry, it is our responsibility, investigate other alternatives and avoid the closing of the business door.

Choose Tor Elastaseal Cold Liquid Applied Waterproofing Systems, ideal for roof refurbishment projects, butequally suited to new build. It is compatible with the majority of existing roof membranes and is an ideal long-term solution to leaking flat roofs. Unlike conventional roofing systems, it forms a completely seamless membrane on the roof and incorporates details with ease.

And more importantly:            NO HOT WORKS!!
