The George Sloane Centre – Asbestos Encapsulation
A W Builders
1100 square metres
BACKGROUND
The George Sloane Centre supports adults with a learning disability, by providing a specialist service including mainstream day care as well as directly serving people with complex or challenging needs.
THE PROBLEM
The asbestos roof had become fragile in areas resulting in water penetrating through the cracks to the rooms below. It was essential that the centre remained open, therefore we designed a bespoke specification that would keep the downtime to a minimum and still achieve the 10yr guarantee.
THE SOLUTION & BENEFITS
Dacfill was recommended for its waterproofing qualities and its independent test certification for the encapsulation of asbestos cement sheeting.
Dacfill is a watertight water-based liquid membrane for roofs. Forms a lasting elastic coat without joint or seams on sloping roofs. (min. 5% slope)
- 100% watertight system
- Resistant to UV radiation, acid rain, heat, frost and pollution
- Barely flammable and self-extinguishing
- Vapour-permeable
- Water-based formulation contains no dangerous solvents
- Single pack product
Waterproofing product based on waterdispersed acrylic resins. The substrate must be well clean and dry, free from flakes, gravel, dust and dirt. Fill up joints with Elastofill®, bridge active cracks with Dacfill bridging fleece. Additionally it can be reinforced mechanically with Dacfill fleece.
